A lifeguard at the Signal Mountain pool has tested positive for the coronavirus, and town officials have decided to close the facility for the remainder of the summer, according to a social media post.

The post on the town's Facebook page said officials don't believe the coronavirus was contracted at the pool facility. It said the lifeguard's most recent shifts were this past Wednesday and Saturday during the morning sessions.

The town said that given protocols in place, risk of exposure for patrons was "extremely low." But, officials said it was appropriate to provide notice.

At the same time, the post said that some of the other lifeguards will be unable to work due to the situation and others have ended their employment in preparation for returning to school.

"As a result, we have made the decision to close the pool for the remainder of the summer," the post said.
