The Chick-fil-A restaurant in Brainerd has temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 virus.

Nick Goebeler, the operator of the Chick-fil-A in the Brainerd Village shopping center, said the restaurant will be closed indefinitely.

"As our nation and communities deal with coronavirus, our focus remains on two priorities: caring for our restaurant team members and guests and doing our part to help limit the spread of the virus," he said in an email Tuesday. "It is in this spirit that I have made the decision to temporarily close our restaurant until further notice – this includes delivery orders placed on the Chick-fil-A App or through a third party delivery service."

Chick-fil-A's drive-through windows have been one of the most popular pickup fast food outlets in the Chattanooga area with midday lines often extending on to Brainerd Road. But workers involved in preparing and serving such meals, even when delivered at the drive-through window, can come in contact with one another or handle the same items where the coronavirus may be spread.

Goebeler said he looks forward to reopening "in the near future."
