Dr. Jonathan Gruber, an MIT Economist and author, will speak Thursday night about Chattanooga being included in his book, "Jump-Starting America: How Breakthrough Science Can Revive Economic Growth and the American Dream."
Grubner argues in his new book that the federal government should invest $100 billion per year in research and development and he outlines how that could help many U.S. cities grow and thrive. He will talk at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at The Edney – Floor 5 in downtown Chattanooga and will then participate in a panel discussion with Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke, UTC's Dr. Mina Sartipi and EPB's Jim Ingraham on innovation and research in mid-size cities like Chattnaooga.
Slate Magazine has named Grubner one of the top 25 "most innovative and practical thinkers of our time."
His visit is hosted by the Chattanooga Smart Community Collaborative, whose members include the City of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, UTC, EPB, Erlanger, The Enterprise Center and the Company Lab.
