The automotive web site iSeeCars.com studied more than 9.4 million auto records to determine the most popular car colors in cities across America.

Nationally, the most popular colors were white, black, gray and silver, accounting for more than 7 in 10 vehicles on the road.

In Chattanooga, the favorite auto colors are, in order:

1. White — 23.2%

2. Black — 22.5%

3. Gray — 17%

4. Silver — 15.3%

5. Red — 9.8%

6. Blue — 8.35

7. Brown — 1.5%

8. Green — .7%

9. Beige —.6%

10. Gold — .5%

Interestingly, experts say white cars are safer because they are more visible on the road. Also, white cars remain significantly cooler when parked in the hot sun.
