Amazon is growing its Tennessee footprint again with plans to build a new fulfillment center near Nashville that will employ about 1,000 workers, officials said Friday.
Employees at the 855,000-square-foot facility in Mt. Juliet will pick, pack and ship smaller items such as books, electronics and consumer goods, according to Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe.
The site is expected to open in late 2021, they said, and use innovative robotics technology.
"As Wilson County continues to recover from recent tornadoes and the COVID-19 crisis, Amazon's new 1,000-job facility is a tremendous development for Mt. Juliet," said the governor in a statement.
The facility will be the company's seventh fulfillment center in Tennessee. In January, Amazon announced it would establish a similar 1,000-job site in Memphis.
The company already has locations in Chattanooga and Charleston in Southeast Tennessee.
Amazon is building a corporate office in downtown Nashville, which will house the management functions for Amazon's Retail Operations division.
Amazon has invested nearly $7 billion in Tennessee since 2010, according to the state.
