Amid cutbacks in the carpet industry, North Georgia got some good news Tuesday with the announcement of a major expansion by one of the fastest growing floorcovering manufacturers in Chattooga County.

High-end carpet producer Try-Con Tufters plans to expand its commercial manufacturing operations in Lyerly, Georgia, with a new 109,000 square-foot facility that will add 104 jobs to double the company's staff.

"Try-Con Tufters has been a first-rate employer in Chattooga County for 15 years, and we're glad that Georgia has been able to provide the workforce necessary for their growth,"Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said Tuesday in an announcement of the $5 million project. "I look forward to seeing the opportunities that this expansion will create."

Established in 2005, Try-Con Tufters specializes in making carpets for hospitality and contract customers from all over the world. Milford Morgan, the CEO and founder of Try-Con Tufters, said the company will be hiring operators, menders, and creelers. Individuals interested in career prospects are encouraged to visit TryCon Tufters' Human Resources Department at 5569 Hwy 114 for additional information.

"This expansion will ensure our presence in Chattooga County for many years to come," Morgan said.

State Sen. Jeff Mullis, president and CEO of the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority, called Tri-Con Tufters "a true homegrown success story."
