In every state, women earn less than men overall, but a new study shows gender disparities differ among the 50 states.

Tennessee's pay levels overall average about 14% lower than the U.S. as a whole, but the gender disparity in unemployment and the share of minimum wage workers in Tennessee is the smallest of any state, according to a new report released Monday.

A study by the online personal finance website WalletHub said Tennessee has the least disparity between the sexes in unemployment rates -only 0.6% difference - and the share of each gender making only minimum wage - only a 4% difference. Tennessee overall ranked No 13 among the 17 measurements of employment, compensation and political influence tracked by WalletHub.

WalletHub's annual ranking of gender equality ranked Nevada, Hawaii, Vermont, Maine and New York, in order, as the best states for equality for women.
