HHM Certified Public Accountants adds to growing staff

HHM Certified Public Accountants, a full-service CPA and consulting firm with locations in Chattanooga and Memphis, has hired a recruiting director, four staff accountants, and an administrative assistant.

HHM hired Kelley Farrow as its recruiting director to help grow the firm by identifying then securing top experienced talent. Prior to joining HHM CPAs, Farrow worked in the human resources and recruiting field placing professionals in healthcare, manufacturing, accounting and administrative roles. She was most recently an executive recruiter at a large CPA firm and the training and development manager for a local government. She is a graduate of Cleveland State Community College and Western Governor's University, and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Henley Edge joins the firm's management advisory services team as a staff accountant. Prior to joining HHM CPAs, Edge worked for NOAH Basketball Analytics as a data analyst. Edge is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a bachelor's in business administration and a concentration in accounting.

Alea Greene joins the firm as a staff accountant. Before her new role, Greene worked in the CFO office and grant's office at Lee University. She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting, and a master's in business administration from Lee University.

HHM has added LaToya Jackson to its accounting and assurance department. Prior to joining HHM CPAs, Jackson spent six years at a local CPA firm where she was the first contact for all clients. She prepared tax returns and assisted in bookkeeping and payroll for the firm. LaToya graduated from Western Governors University with a master's in accountancy degree.

Catelyn Millaway also joins the firm as a staff accountant. She will prepare tax returns and assist with other accounting projects. Prior to joining the firm, Millaway obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Joining the administrative support team is Courtney Stevens. She will primarily manage the firm's project tracking system.

Dean O'Donald named COO for TAG Manufacturing

TAG Manufacturing, a manufacturer of universal attachments for excavators and loaders, has named Dean O'Donald as the company's chief operating officer.

Dean, who most recently served as vice president and general manager of Alabama Metal Industries, will lead TAG alongside founders Gary and Terry Wilt.

"With over 30 years of experience in highly engineered metal products and manufacturing, Dean has a track record of building strong teams and effective operations so that customers get quality products on time," said Gary Wilt, president of TAG.

Dean previously led the successful business transformation of Bush Hog, a leading manufacturer of agricultural equipment attachments.

TAG Manufacturing is a leading designer and manufacturer of highly engineered attachments for construction and earth-moving applications in North America.

EPB wins APPA award for HCS EdConnect plan

EPB and its HCS EdConnect partners recently received the American Public Power Association "Sue Kelly" Community Service Award recognizing "good neighbor" activities that demonstrate the commitment of the utility and its employees to the community.

The city-owned utility was recognized for the free internet service link provided to more than 14,000 students in Hamilton County who are eligible for free- or reduced-price lunches. Last year EPB joined with Hamilton County Schools, the city of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, the Enterprise Center and other public and private community partners to address the need for at-home learners to have access to high-speed internet regardless of their financial position. The result was the formation of HCS EdConnect, a program that provides fiber optic internet services to every economically disadvantaged K-12 student in the Hamilton County School system at no charge.

"EPB stepped up during the pandemic to prove that they are more than a local utility service provider," APPA President Joy Ditto said in an announcement of the Community Service award. "They are a community partner that is deeply invested in Chattanooga. That's what this award is all about."

Funding partners have provided $7.9 million to cover upfront infrastructure costs including additional equipment, fiber optic drops and wireless routers. HCS EdConnect partners include Hamilton County, City of Chattanooga, Hamilton County Schools, The Enterprise Center, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Benwood Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Footprint Foundation, Lyndhurst Foundation, Maclellan Foundation and CARES funding from the State of Tennessee.

"We're proud that Chattanooga is being recognized nationally for decreasing the digital divide in our Gig City using a model that other cities can replicate," said Evann Freeman, EPB's director of government relations.


CDFI Fund awards grant to Trust Federal

Trust Federal Credit Union in Chattanooga is among the recipients of the U.S. Department of Treasury's Rapid Response Program Grants given to Community Development Financial Institutions.

The Trust Federal Credit Union CDFI received $1.826 million of the $1.25 billion awarded to such programs across the country.

The grant money will be used to build capital and loan loss reserves to support financial service programs in underserved communities within the Chattanooga metro area.

Trust FCU is a member owned, not-for-profit CDFI Credit Union servicing Chattanooga's designated underserved areas as well as employees of several local businesses and members of the Chattanooga Audubon Society.


Agustin "Augie" Tamayo inducted into Hall of Fame

Agustin "Augie" Tamayo, a veteran truck driver for the Shaw Industries Inc., has been inducted into the National Private Truck Council/Omnitracs Driver Hall of Fame, the national trade association dedicated exclusively to representing private motor carrier fleets.

In order for a driver to qualify for the NPTC/Omnitracs Driver Hall of Fame, he or she must have a minimum of 20 years, 3 million miles or 50,000 hours of consecutive driving without a preventable accident. Since the NPTC/Omnitracs Driver Hall of Fame's inception in 1987, only 136 drivers have been inducted into this distinguished group.

"Our people are, without question, our greatest asset," said Tim Baucom, president and CEO of Shaw Industries. "Our Shaw truck drivers are often the face of our company to our customers, and we couldn't be the service leader we are today without drivers like Augie."

Tamayo has driven more than 5.3 million miles in his career, with 4.3 million of those miles achieved during his career at Shaw Industries. Throughout Tamayo's 36-year career with the company, he has never had a chargeable accident or moving violation.

"Augie's professionalism and commitment to safety is unmatched," said Kevin O'Meara, vice president of integrated supply chain for Shaw Industries.


James Vaughan honored for 45 year Chamber career

James G. Vaughan, a former CEO of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce for 12 years, will receive the Life Member Award on July 20 from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives in recognition of his 45-year career as s Chamber of Commerce professional.

Vaughan served as staff executive or CEO of chambers in South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Texas. He was also a fundraising and strategic planning consultant to more than 50 chambers of commerce, economic development organizations and cities. He headed the Chattanooga Chamber from 1982-83 and again from 1987-1998 before heading to the Greater Waco, Texas Chamber where he ultimately retired in 2012 and then joined Market Street Services as a senior fellow.

Vaughan served three terms as an ACCA director and was chairman of the ACCE's communictions council in 1978 and 1979. Vaughan, who now resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, currently serves as president of Friends of the Wheelwright, a volunteer support grouo of the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian.
