The Chattanooga Housing Authority is opening its wait list for larger families wanting to move into the newly-renovated Cromwell Hills under its Section 8 rental subsidy program.

The 200-unit complex off of Cromwell Road, which is under a long-term lease with PennRose Properties, is undergoing a $20 million upgrade which is expected to be completed this fall.

The wait list will be open through June 11, 2021 for households with between six and eight household members for a limited number of four-bedroom units. Applicants must pass a background check and meet program requirements including household income. Applications will be taken online only, and may be accessed on the CHA's website.

Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received. Once taken, applicants will remain on the waiting list until there is availability for a four-bedroom apartment.

"We are pleased to bring these units back on-line as part of our newly renovated portfolio,"Betsy McCright, executive director for the Chattanooga Housing Authority, said in a statement. "While there are a limited number of units available, we are looking forward to welcoming residents to a new place to call home."

Cromwell has eight units with four bedrooms. Four have already been filled.

CHA still has about 250 persons on its waiting list for Section 8 housing across Chattanooga and 85 voucher holders are now looking for housing. CHA officials said new allocation awards should open up more housing options later in the year.
