The online real estate website Clever ranked college towns based upon their affordability, social life and college quality. Among 600 cities studied, Chattanooga ranked as the 28th most affordable city with an average monthly rent of $1,177 and median student loan debt of $12,500. Overall, Chattanooga ranked as the 147th-best college town in America among the 600 U.S. cities studied.

The top college towns are:

1. Stanford, California (Stanford University)

2. Williamsburg, Virginia (William & Mary)

3. Pasadena, California (California Institute of Technology)

4. Princeton, New Jersey (Princeton University)

5. Charlottesville, Virgina (University of Virginia)
