BlueCross names Lay as VP of properties, corporate services

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has chosen Lisa VanCleave Lay as vice president of properties and corporate services.

In accepting the role, Lay is permanently assuming the position she has performed on an interim basis for the past several months. She will continue to provide support for the teams responsible for building operations and maintenance, physical security and safety, mail services, and warehouse services as well as all real estate, renovation and construction projects for the company.

"Lisa has demonstrated outstanding agility and judgment as we continue adapting our facilities to support our new FlexWork model," Roy Vaughn, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for BlueCross, said in an announcement of the appointment.

Lay has worked in residential and commercial design for more than 27 years. Since joining the properties and corporate services team at BlueCross in 1999, she has played a central role in all of the company's capital projects including relocation to Cameron Hill and ongoing facility workspace design and implementation.

A Chattanooga native, Lay earned a bachelor's degree in human ecology with a concentration in interior design from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Dalton Chamber of Commerce picks Mock as president, CEO

The board of directors of the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce has unanimously voted to select Jason Thomas Mock as the next president and chief executive officer of the 800-member business organization.

Mock, who fills the job previously held by Rob Bradham who left the Chamber last fall, currently serves as president and chief executive of the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce in Texas, which is located 30 miles south of Austin and

40 miles north of San Antonio. He previously served as director of small business services for the Forsyth Chamber of Commerce in Cumming, Georgia.

Mock has led the San Marcos Area Chamber since 2016, growing its membership in both numbers and influence. His role at the chamber has been to lead the staff, operations, and strategic planning for the 550-member organization.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to come home to Georgia and be a part of the leadership team at the Greater Dalton Chamber," Mock said in an announcement of his selection as the new Chamber CEO. "With the accomplishments of the Believe Greater Dalton plan and upcoming update of future strategies, I look forward to becoming engaged in how the business community plays a role in the quality of life for current and future residents."

Mock is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber's Institute of Organization Management program. The program is recognized for offering premier training to chamber professionals throughout the country. He graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in 2006.

McGill joins Xpress Global System as sales, customer service exec

John McGill has joined Xpress Global Systems LLC, a portfolio company of the investment firm Aterian Investment Partners, as senior vice president of sales and customer service. McGill will work directly with Xpress Global Systems CEO Dan Martin to execute an ambitious sales strategy while elevating the Xpress Global Systems customer experience across the United States.

"Adding John as a senior member to our team is proof that we are serious about growing the XGS footprint rapidly while also being the carrier that customers can rely on for incredible service," Martin said in a press release about the hiring.

Prior to joining Xpress Global Systems, McGill completed a 10-year stint with CHEP, a Brambles Company, where he most recently served as vice president of customer transformation. In all, McGill has produced 20 years of sales and customer experience successes in the supply chain space.

"It's exciting to work with a company with such a growth trajectory that is challenging itself to deliver a higher quality of service at every point along the customer journey," McGill said.

Four Lee faculty receive tenure

By decision of Lee University's Board of Directors in their February meeting, Dr. Brenda Jones, School of Nursing; Dr. ChoEun Lee, School of Music; Catherine Mantooth, College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Allison Pierce, School of Business were awarded tenure.

Jones joined Lee's School of Nursing faculty full time in 2016 and now teaches in the undergraduate and doctoral nursing tracks, in addition to the disaster and healthcare mission management major. In 2021, Jones began serving as Lee's coordinator for the Doctoral Family Nurse Practitioner track. With special interests in global healthcare missions, Jones has led Lee students interested in medical missions on Global Perspectives trips. She has also written curriculum to train indigenous leaders in developing countries in public healthcare and disaster preparedness practices. Jones serves as the executive director of Life Givers International Ministries.

ChoEun Lee, faculty at Lee since 2016, serves as an assistant professor in collaborative piano and vocal coaching. She has given numerous performances across the world in major venues including Carnegie Hall, Ozawa Hall (Tanglewood Music Center), and Harris Concert Hall (Aspen Music Festival). She was twice invited to the Tanglewood Music Festival and named a recipient of the Grace B. Jackson Prize. She has been invited as a repetitor to American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz and also world-premiered a co-commissioned vocal chamber music for soprano, saxophone, and piano by Lori Laitman in the National Opera Center in New York City.

Mantooth joined Lee's Communication Arts faculty in 2005, where she currently serves as an assistant professor in theatre, lighting design, and production management. Her theatre background specializes in all types of technical theatre, as well as scenic and lighting design. As production manager for the Lee Theatre Program, she also trains stage managers and board operators and oversees production calendars. She is most often found backstage or in the design lab encouraging her student designers to explore their theatrical imaginations.

Pierce, assistant professor of business administration, joined Lee's School of Business in 2016, where she teaches courses in organizational business and healthcare. Prior to Lee, Pierce worked with Century Life Pharmacy developing a pharmaceutical business plan and pro forma, served as central division president of Sava Senior Care, and was senior vice president of people development at Life Care Centers of America. Pierce has won numerous awards such as the 2003 National Young Businesswoman of the Year and 2003 Governor's Outstanding Achievement Award in Tennessee. She was also selected to lead a subcommittee for the Bush Administration to address the national labor issues related to the nation's healthcare profession.

Morning Pointe Senior Living names Baushke enrichment VP

Amanda Baushke has been named to the new role of vice president of life enrichment at Morning Pointe Senior Living. Baushke is responsible for leading strategic development of life enrichment and memory care programming at all Morning Pointe locations, focusing on residents' overall physical, spiritual, emotional, cognitive and social well being.

Baushke joins Morning Pointe with more than 13 years of industry experience, most recently holding the position of vice president of operations at a senior living-related company in the Denver, Colorado, area.

She got her start in the healthcare industry as the director of masterpiece living for a large Life Plan community in Michigan. During her time there, she gained knowledge of the day-to-day experiences of residents and how to implement wellness, spiritual care, and life enrichment programs that enhance senior living. Baushke holds a bachelor's degree from Alma College in Alma, Michigan.

Smith joins CHI Memorial Family Practice in Trenton

Amanda Smith, FNP, has joined CHI Memorial Family Practice Associates – Trenton. Smith earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Dalton State College and a master's degree in nursing, family nurse practitioner, from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Smith most recently worked at CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga as a hospitalist nurse practitioner. In this role, she diagnosed and managed acute and chronic conditions and formulated treatment plans under the supervision of a collaborating physician. Her experience also includes time as a rapid code nurse assisting intensivists and hospitalists and providing care to critical patients in the ICU.

Fosbinder joins Hatcher Foundation

Daniel Fosbinder has joined the Austin Hatcher Foundation staff as the facilities and industrial arts manager.

In his new role, Fosbinder will perform all facility upkeep tasks and oversee the foundation's industrial arts therapy division which consists of woodworking, small engine repair, vehicle builds, and more.

Fosbinder attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, where he majored in business administration. He also brings with him more than 15 years of experience in construction and low voltage electrical work.

Dr. Shauna Lorenzo-Rivero is Medical Foundation president

Shauna Lorenzo-Rivero, MD, has been installed as the 2022 President of the Medical Foundation of Chattanooga. Lorenzo-Rivero is a colorectal surgeon with University Surgical Associates. She succeeds Immediate Past President Collen Schmitt, MD, Galen Digestive Health. Other officers are James Haynes, MD, vice president, UT Family Practice, and J. Eugene Huffstutter, MD, secretary-treasurer, Arthritis Associates.

"The Medical Foundation's work is growing in importance every year," Lorenzo-Rivero said in a statement. "The last two years put a spotlight on health care disparities that may not have been revealed before. The work of Project Access continues to serve our uninsured neighbors who need specialized health care. This service will continue as we look to expand the program into neighboring Tennessee counties of Hamilton."
