Dale Ann Wells joins Pointe

Dale Ann Wells has joined Pointe General Contractors as engineering manager.

Jason Medeiros, the company's vice president and general manager, said Wells' "long- time involvement in Chattanooga's design community and her extensive knowledge of site development are among the many reasons that we look forward to her joining our team."

Wells has more than 30 years' experience in all phases of development, management and construction of facilities throughout the Southeast. Wells has been involved in several renowned projects in Chattanooga including McCallie School, Cummings Cove/Black Creek, Ocoee Whitewater Olympic Venue and Lee Pointe.

Women's group honors 3 at Shaw

The Manufacturing Institute will award Kellie Ballew, product sustainability manager, Reesie Duncan, Shaw Contract Group creative director; and Deanna Mathis, supply chain business solutions manager, with the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award. STEP Awards honor women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers and represent all levels of the manufacturing industry.

Ballew and Duncan are among 100 recipients to be recognized as honorees. Mathis is among 30 emerging leaders selected.

Ballew was selected for her role in the development and implementation of Shaw's EcoWorx tile reclamation operation. Duncan was chosen for encouraging innovation and inspiring others to push the boundaries of what is possible in product design manufacturing, as evidenced by 13 consecutive years of Best of NeoCon awards for the Shaw Contract Group brand. Mathis was selected for her leadership in managing Shaw's parcel carrier transition from UPS to FedEx.

Thornbury joins State Farm

Kelly Thornbury Insurance Agency has opened an office at 4131 Chattanooga Valley Road, in Flintstone, Ga.

After six years of working in one of Northwest Georgia's most productive insurance agencies in Rome, Ga., Thornbury decided to open her own agency in Flintstone, Ga., offering auto, home and life insurance as well as retirement planning, banking and business insurance. Kelly Thornbury State Farm will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Thursday.

CSX lauds Marion Environmental

Marion Environmental received the 2014 Award of Excellence at the recent CSX annual Public Safety & Environment Conference in Savannah, Ga. Nominated by regional managers, the award is presented to the CSX Emergency Response Contractor for superior project performance and safety protocol.

CSX and its 35,000 employees provide rail transportation and distribution services over a 23,000 route-mile network in 23 states and the District of Columbia.

Marion Environmental provides environmental consulting services, emergency response teams, and equipment to railroads and industry from six office locations.

BB&T hires Walley to invest

BB&T Retirement and Institutional Services has hired Zach Walley as an investment manager. Walley, who is based at 735 Broad St., brings more than 24 years in the financial services industry to his new role.

The Chattanooga native graduated from Hartwick College with a bachelor's degree and double major in economics and political science.
