Baking Kids Love by Cindy Mushet and Sur La Table, Andrews McMeel Publishing, $20
Baking is a great family project. This new book by Sur La Table and cookbook author/mother Cindy Mushet features 30 kid-tested and approved recipes. The first part of the book contains helpful tips and hints on matters like baking with parchment paper, how to measure ingredients, how to choose ingredients, how to prep those ingredients (i.e.: sift flour, chop nuts), and techniques for mixing and rolling (cutting in butter, whipping egg whites, etc.). Then it's on to the baking, with chapters on cookies (the Brownie S'Mores Bars look delicious!); pies, tarts and fruit desserts; quick breads; cakes; and yeast breads (I want to make the Gotcha Focaccia). Easy-to-follow directions and helpful photos with many of the recipes.
