The works of 11 artists from five Southern states are showcased in the latest exhibition at the Association for Visual Arts Gallery, 30 Frazier Ave. The "2014 Fresh Emerging Artist Exhibit" continues through Friday, July 25.
The list includes five Chattanooga artists: Aaron Cowen, Ashley Hamilton, Adam Kirby, Nathan McKenney and Lisa Srok. The others are John Allen of Knoxville, Jackson Bullock of Central City, Ky., Laura Cleary of Atlanta, Elaine Kinnaird of Birmingham, Ala., Whitten Sabbatini of Memphis and David Shurbutt of Lyman, S.C.
"Fresh" is an annual exhibition designed to help emerging artists gain valuable professional experience and exposure for their work. The competitive, juried exhibition features artists at an early stage in their career who display artistic promise, commitment to their work and fresh ideas. The opportunity is open to artists residing in the Southeast who have not had a major solo show and who do not have gallery representation.
"Since its inception, 'Fresh' has attracted some of the most technically sound and artistically innovative emerging talent in the Southeast, and this year will be no different," says Lauren Goforth, AVA's director of education and exhibitions. "AVA's mission to support and promote emerging artists within the blossoming arts culture of Chattanooga makes this a highly recognized and anticipated show."
Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 423-265-4282 or visit www.avarts.org.
