Necklace by Katie Rogers"Wearables" is the focus of this month's show at River Gallery, 400 E. Second St. Contemporary fabrics by Jen Swearington and jewelry by Mary Lynn Portera and Katie Rogers are a nod to timeless styles, unusual color selections and comfort.
The artists will be present at an opening reception scheduled 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9. The opening will be preceded by a Fabric Dyeing Workshop led by Swearington from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday ($100 fee).
* Jen Swearington, known for her Jenny Threads, creates handmade clothing designed to accentuate appearance and bring joy to the wearer.
* Mary Lynn Portera, local clay artist, creates jewelry from handmade ceramic beads and natural stones in a distinctive organic palette.
* Katie Rogers, a local jewelry artist, works with beads from multiple cultures to create a modern reinterpretation of the ancient talisman and adornment.
The collection will be on view through Sunday, July 31. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sundays and by appointment.
