"Wearables" is the focus of this month's show at River Gallery, 400 E. Second St. Contemporary fabrics by Jen Swearington and jewelry by Mary Lynn Portera and Katie Rogers are a nod to timeless styles, unusual color selections and comfort.
The artists will be present at an opening reception scheduled 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9. The opening will be preceded by a Fabric Dyeing Workshop led by Swearington from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday ($100 fee).
* Jen Swearington, known for her Jenny Threads, creates handmade clothing designed to accentuate appearance and bring joy to the wearer.
* Mary Lynn Portera, local clay artist, creates jewelry from handmade ceramic beads and natural stones in a distinctive organic palette.
* Katie Rogers, a local jewelry artist, works with beads from multiple cultures to create a modern reinterpretation of the ancient talisman and adornment.
The collection will be on view through Sunday, July 31. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sundays and by appointment.
