The Creative Arts Guild's monthly First Friday Gallery Opening and Artists' Reception will take place on the second Friday this month.

Three new exhibits will feature the work of Renel Plouffe, Nicole Song and Patrice Young. They will be guests of honor at a reception Friday, June 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. that is free and open to the community. Their exhibits and the reception are both at the Creative Arts Guild, 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton, Ga.

* Renel Plouffe presents "Ella" in the Main Gallery through June 22.

The artist describes her exhibit as "a reflection and a study of women. I wanted to use different ways to represent the strong women we know today. I used photos of people I know or magazine or advertising images. I deconstruct the image to create a new meaning. In this process, I can use different techniques to represent all the different aspects that I want to highlight."

* Nicole Song's exhibit, "Over The River and Through The Woods," is in the O.N. Jonas Performance Hall. Her work will be on display through June 27.

"I have really been struggling with wanting to be more of an activist with my work and doing what comes naturally, which is painting nature," says Song. "After the (November 2016) election, I felt like I could no longer just paint pretty pictures and that I had to make some form of political/current event statement with each piece. This body of work explores the whimsy and wonderful design of our local ecosystem."

* Patrice Young presents her work, "Paintings and Mixed Media Assemblages," in Gallery 111 through June 22.

Young studied painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking at Herron School of Art, Indiana University, and received a degree in fine arts from Southern Illinois University. She is a self-employed artist living in Toccoa, Ga.
