The sun will come out tomorrow in Spring City, Tenn., when "Annie: The Musical" opens in the Tennessee Valley Theatre for two weekends of performances.

More than 70 youth and adults are participating in this production about the optimistic orphan. The show has been double-cast with students from Hamilton, Rhea, Roane and McMinn counties, who represent 12 schools as well as home schools.

Despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s' New York City, little orphan Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage that is run by the cruel Miss Hannigan.

With the help of the other girls, Annie escapes and goes on an adventure that has her meeting a billionaire and president. Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations and finds a new home with Oliver Warbucks.

Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, "Annie" has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The beloved book and score by Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin feature some of the greatest musical theater hits written: "It's a Hard Knock Life," "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," "Tomorrow" and "Maybe."

The show is directed by Georgette Boozer, assisted by Crystal Janow. Musical direction is by Amanda Miranda and Thomas Rodgers.
