A reception Thursday, Aug. 9, will open "Rural Life Reflections," a new exhibit in McMinn County Living Heritage Museum presented by members of the Community Artist League. The free reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the museum, 522 W. Madison Ave. in Athens, Tennessee.

The league is comprised of 36 members who reside in and around Athens from Knoxville to Cleveland, Tennessee, according to spokeswoman Becky Pico. "Rural Life Reflections" is an open show with 42 works of art from members and nonmembers. There is prize money for Best of Show, first, second and third places.

"This is the first time we've done a second open show, we usually host one a year," Pico says.

The show was adjudicated by Ann Birdwell, a Knoxville artist. She and participating artists will be in attendance at the reception to meet guests.

The exhibit will remain at McMinn County Living Heritage Museum through Aug. 30. Admission is $5 during regular business hours of 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
