Yellow Dragon Productions, a new theater group in town, will open its first adult-driven theatrical production Thursday, Oct. 4, with two of the city's favorite actors playing the leads.

"The Odd Couple" will star Rob Inman and Greg Glover in their first production together, despite the fact both have considerable acting credits to their names. Inman plays easygoing Oscar Madison and Glover is uptight Felix Ungar in Neil Simon's comedy about incompatible roommates.

Yellow Dragon Productions was founded by local director and actor Joel D. Scribner. The theatrical company debuted last Christmas with a youth production. "The Odd Couple" is the first of three adult-cast productions that will be performed.

Recognizing a need for more youth-driven theater locally, Scribner says he plans on taking Yellow Dragon to outlying areas with satellite programming "so children whose parents might not have the financial means to drive to the Chattanooga Theatre Centre daily for rehearsals will have the opportunity to perform."

Theater patrons may recognize Scribner from his role as Tevye in Chattanooga Theatre Centre's production of "Fiddler on the Roof." He and his wife, who plays with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera, began Yellow Dragon Productions when they lived in Indiana, then he revived the program after moving to Chattanooga.

Scribner recently directed Signal Mountain Playhouse's "Shrek the Musical" and has also directed at Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga and Falling Water Elementary School. He has over 35 years of experience in theater as an actor, director, designer and producer.

"The Odd Couple" opens as a group of the guys assemble for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that Oscar's wife left him.

Late to arrive is Felix Ungar, who has just separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed Felix seems suicidal; but as the action unfolds, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob decide to room together, with hilarious results.

Rounding out the cast are Shandra Burnett, Richard Nichols, Dana Rogers, Steve Snyder, Amanda West and Taylor Williams.

Six performances over two weekends will be presented in Marshall Hall at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 3210 Social Circle.
