Conjunction Junction, what's your function?

Hooking up words and phrases and clauses.

Remember that bluesy little ditty from Saturday morning cartoons? It was one of a variety of animated shorts that taught grammar, math, American history and science to children in clever, humorous songs under the umbrella of "Schoolhouse Rock."

That pop-culture phenomena has been revived in a musical called "Schoolhouse Rock Live!" Young actors at Tennessee Valley Theatre in Spring City, Tennessee, will present the musical in four performances that begin Saturday, Aug. 10.

The musical revolves around Tom, a nerve-wracked schoolteacher anxious about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music.

The cast includes Baylee Rigsby, Charlie Farmer-Bowen, Josh Sinclair, Kayla Schneider, Damien Schneider, Karilayn Massengale, Victoria Janow, Rowan Powers and Olivia Parnell.

Kaitlyn Miller is directing the musical, assisted by Erin Couch.
