Six original plays will be presented Thursday, Feb. 21, by members of Ensemble Theatre Company when the fourth Casting the Canvas is held in Hunter Museum of American Art, 10 Bluff View.

Visual and performance arts intermingle for this theater experience. ETC actors will present brief original plays inspired by the Hunter collection.

Thursday night's plays are "Missives From Mitsy VI" by Courtenay Gillean Cholovich, "Heel" by Jacob Moore and "Goodwilled" by Garry Lee Posey.

Also, "Training" by Dakota Brown, "Washington" by Zachary Greene and "The Words We Hear" by Jennifer Bryant.

Cast members presenting these new works will be Jessica Wilson, Lucas Cato, Normand Caissie, Mary Christa Jaramillo, Elena Nikolaeva, Jacob Moore and Marcia Parks.

"This is the fourth year we have done this project with the Hunter Museum, creating over 25 original plays (in total) to accompany various pieces of art and/or entire galleries in the museum," says Posey.

The ETC director says Casting the Canvas grew from a 2009 project called Mixed Media, in which ETC commissioned a sculpture from local glass artist Thomas Spake, which inspired four plays from playwrights outside of Chattanooga.

Those four plays, in turn, inspired four more pieces of visual art from local artists. All five pieces of art and all four plays were then presented in a tour to various studios and art galleries in Chattanooga before being presented by ETC in the St. Andrews Center.
