Cumberland County Playhouse premieres its new Theater for Young Audiences program with "Junie B. Jones, The Musical," which opened July 10 at the Crossville, Tennessee, theater.

"I'm so thrilled to start this new venture at the Playhouse," said Education Director Weslie Webster, who directs this production. "'Junie B. Jones' is a wonderful way for kids and their families to spend a fun-filled morning with lots of laughter, high-energy music and a delightful cast of characters."

Junie has just started first grade and realizes that while kindergarten may have been a breeze, first grade is where the chalk really meets the board. There are lots of issues: the "bestest" friend who announces that she has moved on, a whole new dynamic on the school bus, a new homeroom teacher as well as the possibility that she might need glasses.

Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a "Top Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," and first grade has never been more exciting.

Kimberly Rye stars as Junie B. Jones. Cast members Malachi Banegas, Sophie Burnett, Cora Hassberger, Shelbi Metts, Jonathan Tison and Gwyneth Yockey all play multiple roles in the show.

The show's choreographer is Caitlin Schaub, and music director is Cory Clark.

"Junie B. Jones, The Musical" is based on the beloved book series by Barbara Park, and features music by Zina Goldrich and lyrics by Marcy Heisler.

The youth theater production will run through Aug. 10. Tickets can be purchased online at ccplayhouse.com or by calling 931-484-5000.
