The Creative Arts Guild and Ballet Dalton announce their 14th annual production of "The Snow Queen," a ballet based on the Hans Christian Andersen story of the same name, which will be presented in five performances Nov. 21-24 at Dalton High School in Dalton, Georgia. The dancers will be joined for the fourth year by the 29-piece Creative Arts Guild Chamber Orchestra.

"The Snow Queen" introduces the audience to four royal sisters: Spring Princess (a kind, but lonely woman), Summer Princess (playful, but selfish), Fall Princess (a wild gypsy) and the Snow Queen (beautiful, but cold and conniving). When the Queen of the Sprites and her little Sprites make a magic mirror that controls the seasons of the four sisters, Snow decides that she alone wants to possess the mirror and steals it.

When stolen, the mirror shatters into a million pieces. One shard lands in the eye of a village girl, Kay, which leads the Snow Queen on a search to find Kay and get the shard back.

Every facet of the ballet has been hand-selected by Fincher and former assistant dance director Elizabeth Fisher. The musical score incorporates pieces from composers Glazunov, Tchaikovsky and Delibes.

Performances are scheduled from Thursday, Nov. 21, through Sunday afternoon, Nov. 24. However, only the 2 p.m. matinee will feature all of the music and magic of "The Snow Queen" in an abridged, narrated format specifically designed for young audiences and their families.
