Southern Lit Alliance is taking applications for its second presentation of the Barnett Prize for Local Distinguished Author. The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.
The Barnett Prize recognizes the achievement of authors who live in in this area and raises awareness of their talent. The award is made possible by Warren Barnett, art philanthropist and president of Barnett & Co.
To apply, authors or their nominating agents should submit an application, curriculum vitae and three copies of a completed, published work to Southern Lit Alliance at 301 E. 11th Street, Suite 301, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
The application can be found on Southern Lit Alliance's website at https://www.southernlitalliance.org/barnett-prize.
Eligible Tennessee authors must reside in Hamilton, Sequatchie, Marion, Rhea, Meigs or Bradley counties. Eligible Georgia authors must reside in Catoosa, Walker or Dade counties.
Self-published works are not eligible for the award.
A three-judge panel, whose members have demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the field of creative and published writing, will choose the winner.
This year's winner will be announced during the SouthWord literary festival on April 3 at the UTC University Center. Ticket information for SouthWord can be found on Southern Lit Alliance's website at https://www.southernlitalliance.org/southword
