A reception opening a collection of work by potters Winton and Rosa Eugene and painter James Conner will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at River Gallery, 400 E. Second St.

The couple developed a line of functional and decorative stoneware in which they hand-carve patterns that they have been creating since 1986.

Eugene is a self-taught potter who became interested in clay after watching his children work in the medium making their school projects. Rosa was his understudy and is now a ceramic artist making coil pottery since 1996. Conner is a former sketch artist for the Detroit Police Department.

The event is free and open to the public.
