Mexican dishes that focus on flavor are what you'll find at La Fiesta Mexican Grill in Hixson. The restaurant is known for its classic dishes and homemade spices that bring the taste of Mexico right to Tennessee in the most delicious way.

"We've managed to keep a lot of the traditions of our family in our food, and our customers love it," said owner Raul Mendez, noting they use family recipes that have been handed down for generations.

New to La Fiesta's menu, but old and dear to the Mendez family's heart, is their specially prepared chicken enchiladas. Mendez said they've made this dish at home for many years, but only recently brought it to the restaurant for customers. It's made a big impact.

"If you're looking for something spicy that has a smoky flavor to it, it's this dish," Mendez shared. "We've also just added a new spice blend to our black beans and our red sauce that's really top-quality and made all in-house."

He went on to say that the spice blend they've begun making and serving is unique from other Mexican dining experiences in that it has a lot of flavor and punch that's outside of the jalapeno taste you typically find. Pair the new smoky black beans with Mexican lasagna that has a chipotle tang to it and you have a match made in heaven.

"We have a head chef that's working with us from Mexico City," Mendez added. "We're really working up some great authentic Mexican dishes."

A favorite dish of many diners is the Mexican Street Tacos entree that features five tacos in a Milagro yellow-corn tortilla with steak, grilled chicken, carnitas (pork), pastor and chorizo for $10.49. All street taco meals are served with a side of ranchero beans and rice in a 6-ounce bowl.

Other new dishes that fit the bill for authenticity include La Fiesta's horchata and hibiscus waters to quench your thirst. For your sweet tooth, try the delectable Mexican custard flan or the Pastelito de Frutas, which features a traditional Mexican custard with fresh fruit topping of berries and whipped cream.

For the month of May at La Fiesta, customers can also enjoy $2.99 margaritas daily. The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., except on Sunday when it closes at 9 p.m.
