Sunshine at The Bessie

Bessie Smith Cultural Center will present "an intimate evening of romance with Avery Sunshine" on Sunday.

Rooted in gospel, Sunshine has a jazzy-smooth sound coined by a friend as "jazzgosoul." She released her self-titled debut album last summer, led by the single "All in My Head."

According to a news release, Sunshine has worked behind the scenes for more than 15 years, including stints as choral director of "Dreamgirls" and several Tyler Perry productions. Her musical influences include Roy Ayers, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, The Winans and Al Green.

Opening act will be local band Reel Tight. Composed of four graduates of Brainerd High School, the band was discovered in 1997 by rapper/producer Warren G. Reel Tight released the CD "Back to Real" in 1999.

The $25 tickets include a three-course dinner. A cash bar will be available.

Tickets may be purchased at The Bessie, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd., or charged by phone at 266-8658. For more information, e-mail info@bessiesmithcc.org.
