'American Idol' holding auditions Tuesday in Atlanta

"American Idol," which makes its comeback next year on ABC network, is searching for its next big star.

"AI" begins holding auditions in 19 cities today, Aug. 17, through Sept. 14.

On Tuesday, Aug. 22, "Idol" will hold open auditions in Atlanta in Piedmont Park, 371 10th St. NE.

Although it is an open call, due to the high number of people expected anyone wishing to audition is encouraged to register in advance. Go to www.americanidol.com and click the Open Call Audition link to register and receive further information on audition details, eligibility requirements, forms, terms and conditions.

"AI" will also hold open auditions in two other cities within a three-hour drive (one way) of Chattanooga.

On Sunday, Aug. 27, the show will hold auditions in Asheville, N.C., at 68 Haywood St., a renovated downtown property near U.S. Cellular Center.

On Sept. 7, auditions will take place in the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, 617 Highway 72, Tuscumbia, Ala.

Singers must be at least 15 years old to audition. Those auditioning may bring one guest to accompany them and the guest must be over 5 years old.
