Lee University will welcome two jazz greats - bass player John Patitucci and pianist Jon Cowherd - for the Performing Arts Series on Monday, Feb. 13.

Patitucci has been at the forefront of the jazz world for the last 30 years and active in all styles of music. He is a three-time Grammy Award winner, with more than a dozen nominations, and has played on many other Grammy Award-winning recordings.

Throughout the '80s he performed with artists such as Grammy-winning guitarist Larry Carlton, saxist Stan Getz and trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, among others. In 1985 he became a member of Chick Corea's Elektric and Akoustic Bands.

In 1987 he made his solo debut with a self-titled album that peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Jazz Albums chart and garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Fusion Performance. He earned his first Grammy in 2005 as part of the Wayne Shorter Quartet for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group for "Beyond The Sound Barrier."

Patitucci also has performed and recorded with such jazz giants as Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie and Wayne Shorter. He serves as a visiting scholar at Berklee College of Music's Global Jazz Institute and hosts an interactive online bass school.

Cowherd, an esteemed pianist, has spent time composing, arranging and producing. He is best known for his longtime collaboration with drummer Brian Blade. They have worked together to record and compose pieces, as well as co-founding the Brian Blade Fellowship. He also has played with the New Orleans Ballet and the New Orleans Symphony and Opera. Cowherd recently released his first album, "Mercy," with Patitucci on bass.

Tickets are complimentary, but required, and can be reserved by calling or visiting the Dixon Center box office, which is open 3-6 p.m. weekdays. Remaining tickets will be available at the door one hour before the event.
