Mark Laseter presents 'Songs of Travel' before beginning his own journey

A singer who is a graduate of local vocal programs and training will present a concert before leaving to begin a year-long residency as a choral scholar at Hereford Cathedral in the United Kingdom this fall.

Mark Laseter, accompanied by Jenny Parker, will present "Vaughan Williams' Songs of Travel" at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, in the chapel of First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Ave.

In addition to Williams's music, the program will include songs by Schubert, Chausson, Fauré and Bernstein.

Laseter, a tenor, is a graduate of Center for Creative Arts magnet school and of the Chattanooga Boys Choir. He received a bachelor's degree in voice performance from Westminster Choir College.

He worked with the American Boychoir as its concert choir accompanist. He has performed with Seraphic Fire, The Crossing, Princeton Pro Musica and the Chattanooga Bach Choir.

Currently, he serves as organist at First Baptist Church.

His concert is free and open to the public.
