JJ's Bohemia hosts comedy, dance party Thursday night

A comedy show followed by dancing to a nine-piece, horn-driven soul band is scheduled Thursday night, Aug. 9, at JJ's Bohemia, 231 E. M.L. King Blvd., to benefit a local animal shelter.

Doors open for The Comedy Soul Train at 8 p.m. before the 9 p.m. show presented by RBF Productions, a local company that puts together events to benefit charities. The $7 ticket to Comedy Soul Train will benefit Tennessee Humane Animal League's Pet Placement Center, a local no-kill animal shelter. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.

Bridgette Martin and Morgan Gray from RBF will host the comedy show. Scott Eason and Elliott White, both from Huntsville, Alabama, are the headliners. Also performing will be Lauren Harris-Childers from Huntsville, and Chattanoogans Ashley Saturday, Ben Dalby and David Hannah.

After the comedy show concludes, The Savants of Soul from Gainesville, Florida, will take the stage.

The Savants of Soul are a nine-piece retro-soul group who perform everything from original soul music inspired by the sounds of the 1960s and contemporary retro-soul groups to punk, hip-hop, Chicago blues and 1950s cool jazz.

Since the group's inception in Gainesville in 2011, they've made a name for themselves in the Gainesville music scene as an unparalleled live show experience, moving audiences of all ages with danceable, good-time music.
