How many bands can say they have two, possibly three, generations of fans? Since forming in Arizona in 1993, Jimmy Eat World can - not just for its music, but also the band's pop-culture references.

Millennials who were teens or 20-something fans of "One Tree Hill" in 2005 know the band was a huge influence on that TV drama's soundtrack as well as performing on the show's fictional club Tric. The children of those millennials probably recognize the band as the one Taylor Swift lip-syncs to in the Apple Music ad. Swift sings "The Middle," one of two No. 1 singles Jimmy Eat World had, while dancing around a room as she gets ready to go out.

The band has come to be associated with a variety of genres over its 25 years together - alt rock, indie rock and pop punk, among them. Most likely, a little of all will be part of the show when Jimmy Eat World plays The Signal on Friday night, Aug. 31.

Jimmy Eat World has notched seven singles in the Top 10 of Billboard's alternative chart, two of them landing at No. 1: "The Middle" and "Pain."

"Sweetness and "My Best Theory" reached No. 2, and "Big Casino" got to No. 3 on the chart. Rounding out the seven are "Work," No. 6; and "Sure and Certain" at No. 10. The band's new music includes "Love Never" and "Half Heart."
