Southern Adventist University School of Music invites the community to a free performance of the classic Christmas opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. in Collegedale Church of Seventh-day Adventists, 4829 College Drive East.
A performance is also scheduled Friday night, Dec. 7, for SAU students.
Featuring the university's Symphony Orchestra and two vocal ensembles, Bel Canto and Die Meistersinger, the production will be directed by Julie Penner with Laurie Minner as conductor.
Roles have been double-cast, with the exception of one, so different actors will perform Friday and Saturday. Playing Amahl will be Seforah Fish, soprano, and Ian Hassevort, boy soprano.
Other roles are the mother: Emily Tan and Jedel Butoy; Kaspar: Jonathan Bartholomew and Nacor Lantigua; Melchior: Grady Hayden and Charles Lawson; Balthazar: Jonathan Rodney; and Page: Benjamin Lawson and Zachary Hagen.
