The Fritz is a soul-driven rock band that formed about 10 years ago in the rehearsal rooms at the University of North Florida's School of Music, where a group of guys discovered like minds in their musical influences. After college, they moved to the mountains of western North Carolina, eventually settling in Asheville in 2011.

The new quintet built a strong following with high-energy, danceable songs that featured powerful vocals. The release of their 2013 album, "Bootstrap," launched a near-constant touring schedule. Then, the release of the band's 2017 album, "Natural Mind" captured a sound that'd been years years in the making.

"We intentionally waited to go back into the studio so that we could really work on the music and figure out what makes this band special," says vocalist and keyboardist Jamar Woods.

Visitors to Nightfall can hear for themselves what that is when The Fritz headlines the free summer concert on Friday, July 20, in Miller Plaza, 850 Market St. Craig Lyons will open the show at 7 p.m. with The Fritz taking the stage at 8.

The Chattanooga show is one stop on the band's "Natural Mind Tour."

In addition to Woods, The Fritz is made up of Jamie Hendrickson, guitars and vocals; Jake O' Connor, bass and vocals; Michael Tillis, drums; and Mikey "Spice" Evans, percussion and vocals.

Nightfall is produced by Chattanooga Presents.
