Choral Arts of Chattanooga will close its 2017-18 season with a performance of one of the best-known works of Gabriel Faure, the "Requiem in D minor, Op. 48."

"Faure Requiem and French Masterworks" will be presented this evening, May 17, in Second Presbyterian Church, conducted by Darrin Hassevoort.

The program will open with two Faure works, "Cantique de Jean Racine, Op. 11" and "Fantasie Op. 79." The latter will be played by Jason DuRoy on flute, accompanied by Dr. Sigrid Luther on piano.

The seven-movement "Requiem," sung in Latin, will conclude the program. The choral-orchestra work focuses on eternal rest and consolation. Featured soloists will be Callie Sprague, soprano; Edward Laird and Kim Thompson, baritones.

DuRoy will accompany the singers on organ. Solo violinist Josh Holritz will also be featured.

Holritz and DuRoy will also present Cesar Franck's "Sonata in A Major for Piano and Violin."
