With their sophomore album, "Floral Canyon," *repeat repeat wanted to set things straight with people who might come to their show after hearing "Bad Latitude," their debut album written mostly by Jared while he was courting his now wife, Kristyn.

That record was filled with happy love songs, while the live shows are quite a bit louder and more in your face. The duo's sound is a mixture of '60s pop and surf music blended with New York garage-band attitude.

"People would hear our record and come see us and be like, 'Wow you guys are so much more edgy live and kickass,' "Jared says.

"We wanted to capture our energy, and the album captures that. We wanted to blow minds, because they would come expecting this cute husband and wife thing."

That approach has continued with their third album, which they are finishing up.

"If you like 'Floral Canyon,' you will like this. It's the same but louder and more distorted."

It also marks a pretty significant change in how the couple work together. As Kristyn has gotten more comfortable and confident as a performer, she has also started to provide more input into the songs, Jared says.

Some of that newfound confidence came after a critically acclaimed show at Bonnaroo back in June. Rolling Stone magazine listed the set as one of the "31 Best Things We Saw" at the festival.

"Everything shifted after Bonnaroo," he says.

"We started doing bigger shows and better places to play, and we went up and down California and all over Texas."

It has given both of them a big mental boost.

"That was a huge part of it," he says.

"With the first two records, every song written was basically my doing. But with this record, she actually co-wrote with me. Even some of the guitar parts. We've both been really hands on, and that is a change. She has come out of her shell and become more comfortable.

"She has taken the reins and that was really exciting and 1,000 percent welcomed and it's put a breath of fresh air into the perspective."

From the beginning, Jared says the two have maintained a simple philosophy about how to treat people, and it has remained with them, even as their popularity climbs.

"Even at an early stage, whether there were two people a night or more, or just the club owner, we figured if you make friends with the club owner, he might want to work with us. We'd always make a point to be really nice, and it has worked in our favor.

"Just be nice. That is our key mantra. You never know who is going to be listening."
