Ingrid Woode was working as a chemist, moonlighting as a musician, when her song "Fair Weather Friend" won a 2009 People's Choice award for songwriting.
Since then she's written for Queen Latifah and Lalah Hathaway.
Thursday, Oct. 11, she's the headliner in the Levitt Amp concert at 6 p.m. on the lawn of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd.
Soul singer Woode delivers powerful anthems of resilience enhanced by impeccable musical arrangements played by the 11-piece Woode Tribe orchestra.
Their concert is free.
