Jazz musician John Marsh coming to Granfalloon

Trumpet player and vocalist John Marsh will perform with the Tom Woods Trio of Atlanta when the next I'm Jazzed in Chattanooga is held on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The summer jazz cabaret will be held at The Granfalloon, 400 E. Main St., from 8 to 11 p.m.

A native of North Carolina, Marsh attended Clayton State University to pursue an associate's degree in business management supervision. After entering the United States Army, Marsh chose music as his profession, and went to the U.S. Naval School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia, where he graduated in March 1974.

His first musical assignment was with the 82nd Airborne Division Band at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He played lead jazz trumpet and was a vocalist, while studying advance music theory, jazz arranging and improvisation. He toured a good portion of Europe as a jazz and pop performer.

In addition to being featured on radio and television in Europe, he studied in Frankfurt, West Germany. He also performed for the Queen of England and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Marsh has studied with professional trumpeter Donald Byrd, who was director of the Music Department at North Carolina Central University in Durham. Marsh currently resides in Atlanta.

This show is for ages 21 and up. Dress to impress; no shorts, flip-flops or T-shirts.
