Choral Arts of Chattanooga celebrates Christmas season with concert

Choral Arts of Chattanooga celebrates the Christmas season with a program of music that spans the 10th to 20th centuries Thursday, Dec. 12, at Second Presbyterian Church.

Darrin Hassevoort will direct the singers in "O nata lux," which uses 10th-century text set to music by 16th-century composer Thomas Tallis. The choir will sing Venezuelan composer Cesar Carrillo's setting of the ethereal "O Magnum Mysterium," and "Welcome All Wonders" by 20th-century composer Richard Dirksen.

Favorite caroles in the program include David Willcocks arrangement of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," followed by Harold Darke's "In the Bleak Mid-Winter," Dan Forrest's "See Amid the Winter's Snow" and "Mary Had a Baby" by William Dawson.

A brass ensemble will accompany John Rutter's "Gloria."

The audience will be invited to join the choir and brass singing "O Come, All Ye Faithful."

Tickets will be available at the door, or may be purchased in advance online at https://choralartsofchattanooga.weebly.com.
