Grammy-nominated singer Dave Barnes brings Christmas songs and comedy to Walker Theatre

Celebrate the season with Dave Barnes at a night filled with Christmas songs, his brand of stand-up humor and the promise of special guests.

The Nashville singer-songwriter stops in Walker Theatre on Friday, Dec. 13, for Dave Barnes Presents a Very Merry Christmas. It's almost a homecoming of sorts since Barnes grew up in Knoxville, graduated from Farragut High School and from Middle Tennessee State University.

Even if his name doesn't sound familiar, his music surely will. Barnes wrote Blake Shelton's hit "God Gave Me You," which was nominated for Grammy and CMA awards.

He's friends with Amy Grant, and she and husband Vince Gill sang on his second album.

Barnes has also penned songs for Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett, Maren Morris, Reba McEntire, Marc Broussard, Billy Currington, Hunter Hayes and Ben Rector, among others. He's been headlining tours for 15 years, but before that he opened for Bonnie Raitt, Taylor Swift, John Mayer, Lady Antebellum, Hanson and One Republic

Barnes has recorded three EPs and 10 full-length albums, including two Christmas albums His newest record, "Who Knew It Would Be So Hard To Be Myself ," came out in February 2018.
