Welcome the holiday season by participating in a community sing-along of Handel's "Messiah" on Sunday, Dec. 15, at First Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7450 Standifer Gap Road.

Dr. Lonnie McCalister, former Dean of the Lee University School of Music, will conduct the 3 p.m. concert. Area singers are invited to bring their own scores if they have one (a limited number of chorus books will be available), sit in their designated voice sections and lift their voices together in the seasonal classic.

Singers will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra. Guest soloists will be Cynthia Johnson, soprano; Ian Hassevoort, soprano; Andrea Dismukes, contralto; James Frost, tenor; and Tony Deaton, bass.

This nondenominational program is a unique opportunity for audience participation in what has become a musical hallmark of the season. The sing-alongs annually average 400 people.

The event is free, however a freewill offering will be taken. Refreshments will follow the program.

Directions: At the intersection of Gunbarrel and Shallowford roads, take Gunbarrel north to the roundabout. After crossing the roundabout, Gunbarrel becomes Standifer Gap. The church entrance will be about a quarter-mile farther on the right.
