Twelve bands down ... 18 to go.

Preliminary rounds in the ninth Road to Nightfall wrap up Saturday, March 2. Then, on March 9, one lucky band will walk away with a headlining spot at this summer's Nightfall concert series.

The annual battle of the bands began Feb. 22 at The Granfalloon. Over five nights of preliminary rounds, 30 bands (six each night) will perform to showcase their unique talent and sound with the hope of winning.

The winning band from each of the preliminary rounds will face off on March 9 at Songbirds South.

Each act has 15 minutes to play, and all songs must be original. Then audience members will vote on their favorites via text message to determine the winner of each preliminary.

Nightly winners will receive $500. At the finale, the finalists will compete in front of a panel of professionals in the music industry who will choose the overall winner.

That band will receive a headlining spot at Nightfall on June 21 and $1,000. The second-place winner will receive a prize of $500, and is guaranteed a spot, along with the other finalists, as an opening act at Nightfall.

Road to Nightfall is an opportunity to showcase and promote the local music scene, while giving exposure to new bands the audience may not have heard before.
