Mix the gritty sounds of Chicago with the high-energy street beat of New Orleans, and you've got LowDown Brass Band, a horn-driven ensemble with deep roots in the New Orleans second line tradition.

Known for stellar harmony, adventurous improvisation and infectious grooves, the 10-piece band from Chicago has a powerful brass front line of trumpets, trombones and saxophones with a back line of drums and sousaphone.

LowDown Brass Band stops in Chattanooga on Friday, July 19, as part of its We Dem Boys tour. They will headline the free Nightfall concert in Miller Park, 928 Market St., at 8 p.m. Opening at 7 p.m. will be local performer D.L.Yancy.

The tour is promoting LDB's fifth studio album "LowDown Breaks," which combines hip-hop with world music and jazz styles.
