A program of music by Hispanic composers of the 19th century through the present will open the 2019-20 season of the St. Paul's Artist Series on Friday, Oct. 18.

The Dali Quartet will present "Classical Roots, Latin Soul" at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Members of the quartet are Dominic Salerni and Carlos Rubio, violins; Adriana Linares, viola; and Jesús Morales, cello.

Their all-Latin program will include Arriaga's String Quartet No. 3, Ginastera's String Quartet No. 1, Sonia Morales's Divertimento Caribeno No. 3, Javier Alvarez Metro Chabacano and Astor Piazzola's Tango Ballet.

"Our mission is to introduce audiences to pieces of music that they might not have heard before," says Salerni.

"What makes the Dalí Quartet unique is that we're presenting material that derives from the Latin American experience or classical music written by Latino composers. I think there's sort of this misnomer that the canon of classical music is only German and Austrian and French and other European composers. That couldn't be further from the truth," says the musician.

Paul Thomas, St. Paul's music director, adds that each concert will take place in the newly renovated and acoustically improved nave of the church.

Season subscriptions ($100, $120 and $160) and single tickets may be purchased at the door or online here.
