Next in its chamber series, Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will present Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in Chattanooga State Community College's Humanities Theatre on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3.

CSO Musical Director Kayoko Dan says Symphony No. 2 was one of Beethoven's earlier works in which the composer "steps out of a 'norm' of established classical symphonic traditions."

The concert will also include Respighi's "Trittico Botticelliano" and Michael Ippolito's "Smoke Rings." The CSO Chorus, directed by Darrin Hassevoort, will join the musicians for Ola Gjielo's musical interpretation of Walt Whitman's poem, "Song of the Universal."

"The performance will open with Respighi's 'Trittico Botticelliano,' which depicts three paintings by Botticelli: 'Spring,' 'Adoration of Magi' and 'The Birth of Venus,'" says Dan. "These works are colorful, descriptive and intricately orchestrated to portray each painting's stories and moods.
