The Levitt Amp concert series continues Thursday, Sept. 19, with Stout and the Revolution at Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd. The free concert begins at 7 p.m.
Stout (aka Denise Renee) fronts the band. Her electrifying persona and fresh house- meets-neo-soul fusion are the product of a lifelong relationship with music.
Her story began at age 5 in the basement of her grandmother's church, where the youngster first sang with the church gospel choir. Her talent for singing gospel and soul music continued to blossom, earning her the opportunity to tour with Alicia Keys for three years.
She released her debut album, "Awakened," in 2015, which charted No. 11 on Billboard's Gospel Charts. But 2017 marked a significant shift in Stout's musical journey — she moved away from her gospel roots and joined The Funk Apostles, where she was given the nickname Stout.
In 2018, Stout released her debut single "Queen," which she wrote, arranged and produced with co-production by producer/artist Dane. She also toured the East Coast and Italy last year. She has a new EP set for release soon.
