UTC concert features work of female composers

Dr. Lynn Worcester Jones, pianist, will partner with guest baritone Dr. Andrew White to present a concert of pieces by female composers from the 19th through 21st centuries on Saturday night, Feb.29.

"Women Composers of the Past and Present" will be presented in Cadek Recital Hall, on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, at 7:30 p.m. The duo will perform works by Lili Boulanger, Catherine Urner, Rebecca Clarke, Darleen Mitchell, Eva Beglarian, Bunita Marcus, Elena Ruehr and Missy Mazzoli.

Jones is assistant professor of piano and keyboard area coordinator at UTC. She has performed solo and chamber recitals throughout the United States, Italy and Vienna.

She has won numerous national awards and prizes, and has performed with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, She has also performed in international summer festivals including the Vienna International Piano Academy, Vienna Music Seminar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria; Tyrolean International Piano Academy in Innsbruck; and the Atlantic Music Festival.

White is a professor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, who teaches private voice, as well as classes in diction and vocal literature.

An advocate of contemporary music, he has performed new works in Boston, Cleveland, New York, San Francisco and Vancouver. He made his New York debut in Weill Recital Hall in a program of songs by composer Frederick Koch.
