Stargaze Saturday at Fall Creek Falls

Fall Creek Falls State Park and Cumberland Astronomical Society are partnering to offer a weekend of astronomy study tonight and Saturday at the Fall Creek Falls Inn in Pikeville, Tenn.

Lloyd Watkins will lead discussions on constellations, lunar folklore and the sun. Telescope viewing will be offered, weather permitting.

Jack Pitkin, professor of physics, geology and astronomy at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, advises stargazers that a triangle formed by three planets is present in the early evening sky.

"Those with a good view of the sunset will see a triangle formed by Mars, Saturn and Venus," he said. "They will be most visible right at dusk."

Park visitors wishing to make a weekend getaway of their trip to Pikeville may make reservations at the inn by calling 1-800-250-8610.
