Tubby little cubby turns museum into Pooh Corner

The forecast isn't calling for a blustery day, but Creative Discovery Museum may seem like the 100 Acre Wood when Winnie-the-Pooh and friends show up Saturday.

The visit is part of the museum's Preschool Adventure Saturday programming, designed for children 18 months to 4 years old. The Center for Creative Arts' Theatre Group will depict characters from A.A. Milne's classic stories and visit with guests from 10 a.m. to noon in the museum's atrium. Children will experience multisensory, hands-on activities that incorporate music, art and literacy.

"This will be a unique experience where children can walk through Winnie-the-Pooh's 100 Acre Wood and experience the beloved stories and characters in a memorable way," said Jenette Dean, the museum's PlayGym coordinator and early childhood educator.

The adventure includes meeting Winnie-the-Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet and Christopher Robin and joining them for a pretend tea party, singing and dancing. Children will make a hat of their favorite character, finger paint with vanilla pudding, make a bear sandwich, create a fuzzy-bee painting, decorate a paper balloon and "pollinate" a flower garden with a bee wand.

All activities are free with paid admission, which is $10.95. The museum, 321 Chestnut St., is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 756-2738 or visit www.cdm.org.
