Chattanooga Zoo will host its second annual Q & Brew at the Zoo, a barbecue and beer-tasting fundraising event, Saturday, July 27.

Guests will enjoy some of the best barbecue in town and other refreshments while strolling throughout the zoo to visit the exhibits. Live entertainment will be provided by Mountain Cove Bluegrass band.

According to zoo spokeswoman Marisa Ogles, 120 attended last year, and zoo officials are expecting more than 200 Saturday for the family-friendly event.

The goal is to raise around $10,000, Ogles says. Monies raised will be used for the zoo's educational programs.

Providing the barbecue will be Smokey Bones, Sugar's Ribs, Porker's BBQ, Rib & Loin, Chubby's Bar-B-Q, Choo-Choo Bar-B-Que, Pepper Jack's, Couch's Barbecue, Texas Roadhouse, JC's Family BBQ, Rolling Smoke, Ron Thompson and Eric Plemmons.

In addition to receiving a souvenir cup and complimentary beverages, participants can sample each vendor's barbecue and then vote for their favorite. For those who'd like more than the samples, full dinner plates will be available for purchase.

The winner of the tasting will receive the Best BBQ in the 'Noog: Peoples' Choice Award and other prizes. Last year's winner was Choo Choo Bar-B-Que on East Brainerd Road, Ogles says.
